Bluegrass Came Home to Crested Butte:
For fifteen years, the Crested Butte Music Festival (CBMF) has turned Crested Butte into a big concert hall in the summer, with music resounding from outdoors venues, hotels, stunning private homes, churches and barns. In the summer of 2009 the Festival hosted a bluegrass performance by the Infamous Stringdusters in a local Crested Butte barn. The performance was a sell-out success, and started the wheels turning about a full-blown bluegrass festival. Given the popularity of bluegrass and Crested Butte being the perfect setting to host a Festival, Bluegrass In Paradise was a natural fit.
In July 2010, the CBMF held the inaugural "Bluegrass In Paradise", a five-day festival at the base of Mt. Crested Butte. From July 6-10, 2010 both traditional bluegrass and "newgrass" music was showcased in a range of events: a three-day camp for kids, workshops for adults, children's performances and six top-level bands. Hosted by Drew Emmitt and performances by Spring Creek, Bearfoot, Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys, Blue Highway, Shannon Whitworth, and Emmitt-Nershi Band, Bluegrass in Paradise left the audience wanting more.
